Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is a form of soft tissue manipulations that uses compression and traction for therapeutic, palliative, self-care and recreational purposes. Massage has been practiced for thousands of years all across the globe. In ancient times, countries like China, India, Egypt, Persia, Japan, Greece, Italy and the Americas used a combination of herbal remedies, baths and massage to heal ill patients. The 17th century introduced the modern era which gave rise to new medical systems. These new systems included discoveries within the last 200 years in anatomy, physiology and chemistry. As a result, physicians started creating their own systems and many of them included massage. Pehr Henrik Ling created the Ling system which is now known as Swedish massage.

Swedish Massage is also known as classic massage which includes a combination of techniques like effleurage, petrissage, friction, compression, tapotement and vibration. These techniques and their variations are sequenced in a way that relaxes the body to improve overall health.
